Children from Saint Petersburg visited Plovdiv Region at the invitation of the Regional Governor

At the invitation of the Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov and with the kind assistance of the Metropolis of Plovdiv, and personally of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Plovdiv, children from St. Petersburg visited Plovdiv from 17 June to 24 June 2018.

The delegation, including nine distinguished students from various St. Petersburg schools, accompanied by their teachers and parents, was led by Father Constantine from the Eparchy of Saint Petersburg. Six tenth grade students from the Humanitarian High School „St. St. Cyril and Methodius“ accompanied and helped the guests throughout their stay in Plovdiv.

All Russian children attend various Christian schools and Sunday schools in the city on the Neva River, where, apart from studying religion, they also paint, sing, train in handicrafts and are engaged in various creative activities. The children were in Plovdiv to get acquainted with the history, architecture and cultural sights of the city and to learn more about our common history.

The Regional Governor, his deputies and the Secretary General of the Regional Administration in Plovdiv welcomed the guests. Zdravko Dimitrov noted that thanks to the efforts of his team, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of St. Petersburg and the Regional Administration of Plovdiv was signed in 2015. The Vice-Governor Sergei Nikolaevich Movchan and the Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov have for years maintained friendly and partner relations between St. Petersburg and Plovdiv, which have been twin cities since 1989.

The children and their companions were accommodated free of charge in the monastery „St. St. Kirik and Julita“, where the nuns cared for them. The program of the guests from St. Petersburg included visits to various historical and architectural landmarks in Plovdiv and Asenovgrad, as well as to some of the largest monasteries in the region and attendance at Christian lectures.
