The Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov welcomed Alberto Bonisoli – Minister of Culture and Tourism of Italy

The Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov welcomed a delegation headed by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism of Italy – HE Alberto Bonisoli.

Members of the delegation were the Plenipotentiary Minister Marco Ricci – Foreign Policy Advisor, Mr. Giorgio Giorgi – Head of the Press Service of the Minister, Mr. Salvatore Adduce – President of the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation, Mrs. Rosella Tarantino – Development and Relations Manager of the Foundation Matera-Basilicata 2019, HE Stefano Baldi – Ambassador of Italy in Sofia, Mr. Emanuele Polio – Deputy Head of the Embassy, ​​Mrs. Luigina Peddi – Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Mr. Giuseppe De Francesco – Honorary Consul of Italy in Plovdiv, Mrs. Elsa Hadjiyska, translator and press officer at the Italian Embassy in Sofia. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture Rumen Dimitrov and the Deputy Governors Petar Petrov, Dimitar Kerin and Evelina Apostolova.

The Regional Governor welcomed the guests and made a brief presentation about Plovdiv Region, noting that it is the fastest growing economic area in Bulgaria. He said that culture and sport are these two strands that bring the peoples together and wipe out borders. Mr. Dimitrov said that there is a big responsibility ahead of both parties for the successful performance of Plovdiv and Matera as hosts of the European Capital of Culture in 2019 and he expressed the hope that after this meeting the contacts between the two cities will be even more fruitful.

HE Alberto Bonisoli thanked Mr. Dimitrov for the hospitality and did not hide the fact that Plovdiv has been at his heart since 1993, when he first visited this wonderful city. He said it was very important to expand partnership opportunities during the host of the largest European cultural forum and it is vital all of the institutions to work together and reach success. “It is very important to unite our efforts because if the team has one goal, it will surely achieve good results. This is a unique moment and we all have to make the most of it”, said the minister.

At the end of the meeting, the Regional Governor gave to Minister Bonisoli a plaque with a replica of an ancient Thracian chariot.
