The days of the Portuguese culture and art started in Plovdiv with the support of Regional Administration – Plovdiv

Within the framework of the Days of Portuguese Culture and Art in Plovdiv, from October, 29th to November, 4th 2018, Regional Administration – Plovdiv, Camões Institute – Sofia and the Embassy of Portugal in Bulgaria presented the exhibition “Blue Space”, through which residents and visitors of Plovdiv had the opportunity to learn about the fascinating century-old artwork azulejo – one of the most powerful forms of art in Portugal and one of the most original contributions to world culture of the spirit of the Portuguese. The artwork azulejo significantly exceeds its purpose of being a purely decorative art and achieves the high status of art that poetically interferes with the creation of architecture and cities.

The exhibition “Blue Space” includes ceramic panels with azulejo, made by alumni and friends of Camões Institute – Sofia.

The exhibition was officially launched by Mr. Borislav Dimov, Chief Secretary of the Regional Administration – Plovdiv, and Mrs. Anaisa Gordino – Director of the Camões Institute – Sofia, on October, 29th 2018 at 17.30 in the halls for temporary expositions of City Art gallery – Plovdiv.

During the launching the artist Emilia Emileva, who specialized in the city of Porto, Portugal, and has been working with ceramics for many years, presented the origins, techniques and different styles of this art.

On Saturday, November 3rd, 2018, at 5:00 pm, many visitors had the chance to enjoy the beauty of the Portuguese language and get acquainted with modern Portuguese literature by attending the reading of excerpts from the famous “The Average Index of Happiness” novel by the contemporary writer David Mashado, who won the European Union Literature Award.

The days of Portuguese culture and art in Plovdiv were held under a project of Regional Administration-Plovdiv implementing the Work Program for 2018 of the Communication Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria for the European Union in connection with the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
