5th Meeting related to the European Presidency of Bulgaria held in Parvomay

The fifth information meeting, dedicated to the preparation of our country for the upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU was held on November 29th, in the hall of Parvomay Municipality. It is the latest meeting in the framework of the project of the Regional Administration – Plovdiv: „Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 to the upcoming event „Plovdiv European Capital of Culture in 2019“.

The meeting was attended by two of the Vice Governors of Plovdiv Region – Mr . Petar Petrov and Eng. Dimitar Kerin, Mr. Angel Papazov, Mayor of Parvomay Municipality, Municipal Councilors, Town Hall Mayors, the project manager Mrs. Snezhana Alexandrova with her team from Coordination and European Integration Department of the Regional Administration of Plovdiv, representatives of the educational sector, cultural and community figures, citizens of Parvomay and journalists.

The meeting was opened by the Vice Governor Mr. Petar Petrov, who underlined that our membership in the European Union is not only a privilege but also a responsibility related to the building of a strong and united European family. In his welcome speech to the guests Mr. Angel Papazov, Mayor of Parvomay Municipality, pointed out that his town could present unique customs, rituals and celebrations as well as interesting archaeological sites during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. „These are things that we are already presenting to our European Union partners“, Mr. Papazov added.
Traditionally, information meeting started with the short animated film „Ten years Bulgaria in the EU“ and included four multimedia presentations, given by Ms. Snezhana Alexandrova, Mr. Krasimir Loykov from the European Information Center „Europe Direct“, Center for Education for Democracy, Chief Assistant Dr. Stoyan Antonov from the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the Department of Ethnology at the Plovdiv University „Paisii Hilendarski“, Mrs. Elitsa Vassileva and Мrs. Ms Reneta Georgieva from the Municipal Foundation „Plovdiv 2019“.

Mrs. Snezhana Alexandrova explained to the attendees that the series of information meetings are held at the initiative of the Ministry for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and are organized by the Regional Administration of Plovdiv Region. She underlined that the events are part of the activities related to the implementation of the communication initiatives of the National Plan of the Communication Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria for the European Union 2017.

In her presentation on „Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, January 01 – June 30, 2018“, Mrs. Alexandrova provided information on the 10th anniversary of Bulgaria’s membership in the European Union and the priorities of our presidency of the Council of the EU.

The topic of the presentation of Mr. Krasimir Loykov was „2018 – European Year of Cultural Heritage, Europe for Culture“.

Chief Assistant Dr. Stoyan Antonov from the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the Department of Ethnology at the Plovdiv University „Paisii Hilendarski“ gave a presentation on „The European Year of Cultural Heritage, Regional Optics“, and Mrs. Elitsa Vassileva from the Municipal Foundation „Plovdiv 2019“ presented the topic „Road to Plovdiv“. At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Reneta Georgieva of the MF „Plovdiv 2019“ announced an open call for funding of projects initiated by and for the Chitalishte in Plovdiv and the region.

Under the project „Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 to the upcoming Plovdiv European Capital of Culture in 2019“ a total of five information meetings were held in the municipalities of Hissarya, Karlovo, Stamboliyski, Asenovgrad and Parvomay in November.

The project also includes initiatives in four chitalishta from Plovdiv Region, supporting the preparation of the forthcoming Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU.

The first cultural event will take place on December 2, 2017 in chitalishte „Prosveta“ in the village of Belashtitsa, Rodopi Municipality. The next cultural initiative will take place on December 5, 2017 in chitalishte „St. St. Cyril and Methodius“ in the town of Rakovski, and on December 8, 2017 chitalishte „Lyuben Karavelov“ in the village of Kurtovo Konare, Stamboliiski Municipality, will present its cultural program. On December 10, 2017 in the chitalishte „Yosif Dobranov“ in the village of Zhitnitsa, Kaloyanovo Municipality, will be held the last cultural event under CS 2017 for Plovdiv Region.
