H.E. Mr. Mykola Baltazhy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Bulgaria, and the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Plovdiv – Mr. Dimitar Georgiev, met with the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Region Mr. Zdravko Dimitrov.
The occasion for the meeting was the organization of events to honor the 100th anniversary of the establishment and the 27th anniversary of the resumption of the diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Bulgaria.
The treaty with Ukraine was signed in Brest-Litovsk on 9 February 1918. This is also the day of the establishment of Ukrainian People’s Republic, because on that day it has received international recognition. On 23 March 1918, King Ferdinand issued a decree appointing former Minister of Public Education Prof. Ivan Shishmanov as the first Bulgarian Ambassador to Ukraine. This ends the process of establishing diplomatic relations between our two countries.
During the meeting H. E. Mr. Mykola Baltazhy and Mr. Zdravko Dimitrov discussed the initiatives on the occasion of the celebration of the Bulgarian-Ukrainian diplomatic relations in which Plovdiv Region will join in 2018. One of the most interesting events next year will be the visit to the country of the famous silver eagle of Khan Asparuh, which is kept in the archeological complex „Voznesenka“ – Zaporizhia region.
The Ukrainian ambassador pointed out that after the signing of the Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement, the commodity turnover between the two countries has increased significantly. The number of tourists has also increased by nearly 50%.
Both interlocutors were firmly convinced that over the past 100 years the mutual relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine was based on the unchanged policy of friendship, solidarity and partnership.
„Ukrainian-Bulgarian relations, as well as political dialogue, economic cooperation and contacts with Ukrainian cities and regions, have been developing progressively“ said H.E. Baltazhy.
„Relying on this solid foundation, we could more effectively develop our relations in the future!“, added Mr. Zdravko Dimitrov.
