On November 16, 2018 in the Archaeological Complex “Small Basilica of Philippopolis” in Plovdiv the Russian instrumental group “Bis-Quit” – the ambassador of Russian culture around the world, and the laureate of the highest theater award of St. Petersburg “Golden Projector” Katarzyna Mackiewicz (soprano) performed a special festive concert for the residents and the guests of the city of Plovdiv, on the occasion of the celebration of 20 years of cooperation between Plovdiv Region and Saint Petersburg.
During the concert were performed classical works by S. Rahmaninov, P. Tchaikovsky, Puccini, A. Borodin, N. Roman-Korsakov, Russian folk songs and romances, as well as the original musical compositions of the band. The excerpted instrumental performances of the patriotic song “My Country, My Bulgaria” by Emil Dimitrov and the Bulgarian folk song “Katerino Mome” were a special gift for everyone present.
The festive event was honored by the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Region – Mr. Zdravko Dimitrov, the Chairman of the Municipal Council in Plovdiv – Ms. Savina Petkova, the Chief Secretary of Regional Administration – Plovdiv – Mr. Borislav Dimov, the Chairman of the Tourism Council – Plovdiv and the Managing Board of Thracian Tourist Region – Mr. Lyubozar Fratev, public figures, citizens and friends of art.
After the concert, the Russian ensemble Bis-Quit and Katarzyna Mackiewicz expressed their satisfaction with the incredible acoustics in the Small Basilica – one of Plovdiv’s most distinctive landmarks, and thanked for the hearty reception, offering to visit again the ancient city in 2019 and to participate in the program of cultural events of the European capital of culture.
