The new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Mr. Herbert Salber paid his first official visit to the Regional Administration of Plovdiv Region

On 6 October 2017, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Herbert Salber, paid a courtesy visit to the Regional Administration of Plovdiv Region. He was accompanied by Honorary Consul of FR Germany in Plovdiv – Dr. Mariana Cholakova.

The guests were received by the Acting Governor of Plovdiv Region Mr. Petar Petrov, the Vice Governor Ms. Evelina Apostolova, as well as by the Chief Secretary for Administration – Mr. Borislav Dimov.

There were two reasons for the visit of HE. Herbert Salber – his appointment as ambassador and the celebration of the Day of German Unity.

Mr. Petar Petrov congratulated the new ambassador on his appointment to the prestigious post as well as on the occasion of the National Holiday – the Day of German Unity.
He acquainted him with the development of industry and agriculture in Plovdiv region and highlighted the advantages and opportunities of the region to attract foreign investments in the region.

„The geographical location of the region, combined with good infrastructure, the highways that allow quick access to the port of Burgas, the good condition of the first class roads, the convenient railway transport and the proximity of an international airport are a huge advantage for the development of the region“, said Mr. Petrov and stressed that the proof of this is the ever-expanding Trakia Economic Zone, where more and more foreign companies are building factories. He also emphasized the role of the International Fair – Plovdiv as a factor for the creation and development of good contacts in the business at the international level.

Vice Governor Mrs. Apostolova briefly presented the history, culture and development of tourism in the region. The fact that we are at a crossroads has predetermined the coexistence of different ethnic groups in Bulgaria for centuries. This especially applies to Plovdiv and the region. In a region where large communities of Bulgarians, Jews, Greeks, Armenians, Turks and Roma live, and where everyone has the freedom to profess his own religion, we can boast of and be an example of ethnic tolerance,“ Ms Apostolova stressed.

The issues related to Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area, the membership and the forthcoming presidency of our country to the Council of the EU, as well as the issue of illegal immigration, were inevitably discussed at the meeting between H.E. Mr. Herbert Salber and representatives of the Regional Administration.

„There are no different membership levels in the EU – there are different stages of integration that every member has to pass through. Bulgaria is a full member of the European family and it fulfills to a large extent its obligations. There are many challenges ahead and I am here to solve them together,“ Ambassador Salber said.

At the end of the meeting H. E. Mr. Herbert Salber gave a luxurious photo-book about Germany to his hosts and assured that they have still many meetings and joint work.
