The ethnoses in Plovdiv gathered at the ritual dinner Iftar

For millions of Muslims around the world, the sacred month of Ramadan is marked by the daily Iftar meal with family at the end of a day of fasting from food and water.

Representatives of all ethnic communities in Plovdiv gathered on Wednesday, June 6th, at the special Iftar dinner, which was given during Ramadan’s holy month for Muslims. It was held for the second time outdoors, in front of the Dzhumaya Mosque in the center of Plovdiv, and began after sunset. Muslims observe a strict fast during the month of Ramadan. These are days of forgiveness, repentance and charity, time of empathy for people in need.

The dinner was held on the idea of the Turkish community in the city.

The Chairman of Plovdiv Municipal council Savina Petkova, the Vice-regional governor Evelina Apostolova, the Turkish consul Hussein Ergani and his deputies, representatives of the various ethnic communities, the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, non-governmental organizations, the business and journalists joined the special Iftar dinner.
Prior to the Iftar dinner, the Board of Trustees organized a round table on “Exploring the culture, traditions and customs of different ethnicities and religions”. Representatives of three religions in Plovdiv – Christianity, Muslimism and Judaism – greeted the Muslims with the celebration, spoke about the traditions of their ethnicity and discovered many similarities in the performance of rituals and holidays.

Once again all of them united around the conclusion, that Plovdiv is a city that can be proud of and be an example of ethnic tolerance.
