On February 13th, in the National Palace of Culture in Sofia was held the High-level Meeting of the Ministers of Tourism of the EU member states.
In her speech, Minister Angelkova stressed the utmost importance and benefit of the meeting, as tourism contributes with more than 10% to Europe’s GDP. „Tourism also provides 12% of European jobs. Thus, the sector is among the top three economic sectors contributing to the generation of gross domestic product, Minister Angelkova stated further.
During the meeting were discussed the prerequisites for upgrading the quality of tourism as a product and for creating extra connectivity, especially on the Balkans, where, according to Minister Angelkova, the integration in tourism has already been achieved.
The meeting participants also discussed a proposal by the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism, Nikolina Angelkova, to create a Sofia Map of 100 major European tourist attractions. Its purpose would be to serve as another way to provoke interest in Europe among tourists and draw more visitors to the Old Continent from remote destinations such as China, Japan, India, and the USA. The idea is based on Bulgaria’s successful experience with a map of the 100 most important national tourism sites.
In the context of 2018 EU – China Tourism Year, Special attention was drawn to the developments, projects and initiatives concerning the cooperation in tourism between Europe and China.
