Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov met with the new concessionaire at Plovdiv Airport

On May 15, 2018, Representatives of the Hainan Airport Group, part of the Hainan Group Holding, met with the Regional Governor and shared their plans for the future of Plovdiv airport. The concession is for 35 years and for that period the concessionaire will invest in the airport nearly 80 million euros. The funds are intended for maintaining and repairing the existing infrastructure and building a new one. The goal of the concessionaire is to make Plovdiv Airport a hub with passenger and cargo terminals.

Hainan Airport Group currently has approximately $ 145 billion in assets, over $ 90 billion in revenue per year, and over 410,000 employees worldwide. The company’s activities are in a variety of spheres, focusing primarily on aviation, technology, tourism, finance, innovation and logistics. Hainan Group manages 14 airlines with over 1250 aircraft operating 13 airports and over 1000 domestic and international lines, and owns the majority stake in Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Annually, the company carries over 100 million passengers to over 260 cities.

During the meeting the concessioner was also interested in the pace of the reconstruction of Plovdiv-Asenovgrad road as well as in the condition of the other transport corridors in the region.

The Regional Governor expressed his willingness to organize a workshop drawing together representatives of the business community in the region to give their suggestions and outline their expectations to the concessionaire of Plovdiv Airport.
